Venus Viva aftercare timeline: first 2 weeks and what to avoid
By Artistry Aesthetics | September 23, 2026

The single most important Venus Viva aftercare rule is simple: protect your skin barrier and protect it from the sun. Keep the area clean, moisturized, and out of heat and heavy sweat for the first few days, then stay consistent with SPF while your skin calms down. I hear it a lot in our office, people appreciate that my pricing is affordable, and that same practical approach applies to aftercare too. I’m in Thornton, and I want you to leave with a clear plan you can actually follow.
First 24 to 48 hours after Venus Viva: calm, clean, and hands off
Right after Venus Viva, your skin usually feels warm and looks pink to red, kind of like a sunburn. That’s normal. What matters most in this window is keeping things gentle so you don’t add extra irritation.
Quick rule: If it stings, heats you up, or makes you sweat, skip it for now.
What I generally recommend you do
- Cleanse gently twice daily with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser. Pat dry, don’t rub.
- Moisturize right away using a simple, reparative, fragrance-free moisturizer. This is your post-Venus Viva care anchor.
- Use cool compresses if you’re puffy or uncomfortable. Keep them clean and don’t press hard.
- Keep makeup off until your skin feels calm and intact. If you absolutely need coverage, ask me first so we can pick the safest timing for your skin.
What to avoid in the first 24 to 48 hours
- Hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and hot yoga.
- Heavy sweating and intense exercise. Give your skin a real break.
- Scrubs, cleansing brushes, exfoliating cloths, and anything “polishing.”
- Active ingredients like retinoids and strong acids. This includes many anti wrinkle skin care products that normally work great, just not right now.
And yes, even in Thornton, even in fall, the Colorado sun still counts. Wind plus dry air can make skin feel tighter too, so this is the time to baby your barrier.
Days 3 to 7: redness, flaking, and the number-one mistake (picking)
Around day three, a lot of people notice mild roughness, tiny dry patches, or light flaking. It can be tempting to speed things up. Don’t. Picking, scrubbing, or “helping” the flakes along is one of the fastest ways to trade a great result for irritation or dark marks.
One of my long-time clients put it perfectly: the results were amazing, but it was imperative to follow a regimen of specific lotions immediately following the treatment. That’s exactly what this week is about. Simple steps, done consistently.
Your day 3 to 7 checklist
- Keep cleansing and moisturizing. If you’re dry, add moisture more often instead of adding stronger products.
- Stay out of pools and hot tubs for at least 48 to 72 hours, and longer if you’re still flaking. Chlorine and bacteria exposure are not your friend this week.
- Avoid heavy sweating until your skin looks settled. If you’re a parent or commuter and you need a low-downtime plan, this is where scheduling matters.
- No retinoids, no strong acids, no harsh acne treatments. If you’re using products because you’re working on texture or breakouts, I’ll tell you exactly when it’s safe to bring them back.
If you’re along the Washington Street corridor near 104th Avenue, I’m close enough for quick check-ins. Sometimes a five-minute look at your skin saves you a full week of guessing.
Weeks 1 to 2: bringing your routine back without ruining your Venus Viva results
In week one and into week two, your skin usually looks calmer, but it can still be sensitive under the surface. This is where people get overconfident and jump back into everything at once.
When you can usually restart actives
I generally recommend waiting at least 1 to 2 weeks before retinoids and chemical exfoliants, or longer if you’re still flaking or feeling stingy. If you use anti wrinkle skin care with retinol, this pause is normal. Your goal is healing first, then results.
Sun protection in Thornton is non-negotiable
Colorado sun plus seasonal wind can be sneaky. I want you in SPF 30+ daily for at least two weeks, and honestly, it’s best as a long-term habit. Mineral SPF tends to be a safer bet when your skin is fresh. Add a hat if you’ll be outside for errands, kids’ games, or commuting. This is the easiest way to prevent pigmentation issues after resurfacing.
Post-Venus Viva products: what I like to keep in your routine (and what to pause)
I keep aftercare product advice simple on purpose. You do not need a 10-step routine while you heal. You need the right basics, used consistently.
Keep: gentle cleanser, fragrance-free moisturizer, mineral SPF 30+.
Pause: retinoids, glycolic/salicylic acids, strong acne spot treatments, scrubs, and anything with fragrance that makes you tingle.
If you’re also doing other services with me, like botox, dysport, Xeomin, dermal fillers, or you’ve searched “lip fillers near me” and ended up here for lip filler lips, just tell me what’s on your calendar. I’ll help you space things so your skin is never dealing with too much at once. Same goes if you’re coming in for a weight loss injection program and your skin is feeling drier than usual.
When to text or call me: what’s normal vs what’s a red flag
I take follow-up seriously. People come to Artistry Aesthetics because they want to feel safe, listened to, and clearly guided, not rushed. One of our clients described it as feeling “completely comfortable and cared for, ” and that’s exactly the standard I hold myself to.
“From the moment I walk in, I feel completely comfortable and cared for. She takes the time to listen, explain everything clearly...”
